The Railway Children’s heroine back steam line – The Yorkshire Post says

HOW FITTING that the acclaimed actress Jenny Agutter should give her name to the burgeoning campaign to raise £200,000 to save the Keighley & Worth Valley Steam Railway.

It was her performances in The Railway Children, both the 1968 TV adaptation and then the classic 1970 film, that effectively put this iconic line back on the map after passenger services were halted in the early 1960s. They still resonate – the children of that age being the rail enthusiasts and users of today.

One of the visitor attractions in Yorkshire as steam trains chug through the stunning countryside between Keighley and Oxenhope, it finds itself bereft of income as a direct result of the Covid-19 lockdown.

And with every likelihood that a regular timetable will not be able to resume until next year, it faces a long haul just to get back on track.

That’s why the signal of support from Jenny Agutter, and others, is so timely and in merit of wider endorsement.
