THIS country is rightly proud of its cartoonists and their craft. Now another name can be added to this celebrated collection – The Yorkshire Post’s Graeme Bandeira.

A scourge of past and present prime ministers – sorry Boris Johnson – his creative genius, a mainstay of this newspaper’s print and online offer each day, has seen him win the coveted Gillray Giblet Political Cartoon of the Year Award.

Deserved recognition for a special talent who his colleagues are just as proud to call a friend, his winning cartoon depicted the PM as the hapless landlord of The Track & Trace when the pubs first reopened.

Featuring guest ales like Northern Poorhouse (sour), Rishi’s Special Brew (invigorating) and Ye Olde Mogg (only sold in old money), this gentle humour, alongside the sobering illustrations that this year’s events have demanded, has seen Bandeira become loved by the public and loathed by politicians.
