Thirty years after Welsh farmer Sirrell Griffiths won the blue riband Gold Cup with 100-1 outsider Norton’s Coin, the Sivills family – and their many supporters clad in purple and white scarves – find themselves taking on several the sport’s richest bankrollers.

And while the odds are against Lady Buttons adding to the 15 races that she has already won for trainer Phil Kirby, she can be assured of huge support – ITV Racing’s Ed Chamberlin is a fan of racing’s ‘Queen of the North’ – when she lines up at 4.10pm.
