Who should play Captain Sir Tom Moore on film? – The Yorkshire Post says

HAD we asked him a year ago, the very question of which actor might portray the self-effacing Second World War veteran Captain Sir Tom Moore on screen would have seemed preposterous.

But since his fundraising efforts on behalf of the NHS as he prepared to turn 100, his fame has grown to such an extent that two other knights, Michael Caine and Anthony Hopkins, are now said to be in the frame.

Neither is in the first flush of youth but both would require the services of a prosthetic artist to be sufficiently aged up.

The news that this old soldier’s story is now to be a film, following a bidding war among prospective producers, certainly creates a casting quandary.

But as Robert Hardy, John Lithgow and Gary Oldman have demonstrated in their various portrayals of Winston Churchill, age is no disqualification in embodying the essential spirit of a great old man. We look forward to seeing someone of their calibre do justice to Captain Sir Tom.
