The Yorkshire Post says: A great comedian. Remembering Barry Chuckle

THE warmth of the tributes paid to the much-loved Yorkshire comedian Barry Chuckle, who has died at the age of 73, are testament to how much happiness he and his brother, Paul, spread over so many years.

Barry Chuckle, left, was part of a comedy double-act.

For generations of children, The Chuckle Brothers were favourites not just on television, but in pantomime and seaside summer seasons.

Their comedy was unashamedly good old-fashioned fun, and that was at the heart of its appeal, keeping their BBC series at the top for more than 20 years, a considerable showbusiness achievement.

But Barry and his brother provided much more than just laughs. They contributed greatly to the life of their native Rotherham.

The thoughts of countless people who grew up chuckling at Barry’s antics will be with his family today, and it is to be hoped that is a comfort.

He provided 50 years of laughter, and that is a proud legacy.
