THE runaway winner of this year's Tour de Yorkshire was, once again, the people who made this race.

This region would not have been showcased at its glorious best without the organisers, councils, volunteers, emergency services and many more who helped to promote this county, and its unrivalled scenery, as one of the world’s top tourist locations.

Or the spectators who turned out in overwhelming numbers, and made the most of the warm weather, to demonstrate the community spirit that exists here.

Or the riders themselves who have responded to this public goodwill by taking part in this race – they ranged from high-profile names like Mark Cavendish to emerging stars like Yorkshire’s very own Harry Tanfield, the winner of the first stage, or talented Leeds teenager Tom Pidcock.

Thank you to one and all. Another victory for Team Yorkshire, it also bodes well for 2019 when the UCI Road World Championships come to the home of cycling.
