The Yorkshire Post says: Man on a mission. Praise for Deputy Lieutenant

ON BECOMING Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Zulfi Karim modestly described how he was struggling to take in the fact that the son of an immigrant textile worker, born and raised in inner-city Bradford, was being asked to help represent The Queen in his home county.

In fact, an examination of his extraordinary CV makes his suitability for the role eminently clear. The 51-year-old businessman has worked tirelessly to improve community relations after being shocked into action by the Bradford riots in 2001.

His many and varied achievements include establishing the city’s World Curry Festival and raising funds to save Bradford’s last remaining Jewish synagogue from closure.

He intends to use his new title to become an even more high-profile advocate of both Bradford and Yorkshire and, in doing so, become another inspirational ambassador for the area.
