The Yorkshire Post says: Stamp of approval for Captain Cook's contribution

Captain James Cook's voyage of discovery on HMS Endeavour changed our understanding of the world forever, bringing back vital new discoveries about longitude, geography, weather patterns and animal and plant life. As such, it is highly appropriate that the 250th anniversary of the Yorkshireman's pioneering trip is being immortalised by the Royal Mail with a set of 10 new stamps.

The collection will include a selection of the original drawings and paintings of the indigenous peoples, landscapes of the Pacific and flora and fauna, some of which had never been seen before by Europeans, and amazed the scientific establishment at the time.

Celebrations in Whitby this year have helped cement the significance of Captain Cook’s influence in the minds of the modern generation. The new stamps further seal the deal.
