ON a day of celebration when Arsene Wenger takes his leave of Arsenal after 22 years at the helm, the Frenchman's farewell at Huddersfield Town should not detract from the achievement of the Yorkshire club in retaining its Premier League status.

Huddersfield Town's draw at Chelsea secured their Premier League status.

A match which encapsulates the financial divide between the elite clubs in football’s top flight and their rivals, the success of the Terriers and their visionary owner Dean Hoyle deserves equal recognition.

A self-made Yorkshire-man, he helped put  together the ultimate team – under the shrewd manager David Wagner – which was able to defy all those naysayers who were tipping the club for relegation from the moment they won promotion to the ‘Promised Land’ a year ago.

More importantly, they did so while retaining Huddersfield Town’s community ethos. In doing so, they secured the loyalty, and thanks, of their fans whose support – as the 12th player – made all the difference.
