YP Letters: Burglary ‘crackdown’ lacks conviction on Humberside

HUMBERSIDE Police may have “cracked down” on burglars (though probably only in Hull), but I should point out that merely arresting someone doesn’t mean they are guilty.

Those arrested are, more often than not, released without charge making their arrest irrelevant.

Statistics of convictions for burglary would be more informative, though from Humberside Police’s point of view, probably much less impressive, certainly to those of us unfortunate enough to live on the force’s southern fringe where – in my experience – you’re lucky to see a policeman, let alone have one come and investigate a burglary.

WHAT hope is there for crime levels improving when we have grinches stealing festive fir trees from forests, garden centres, shops and even town 
centres?

This is becoming a dangerous country to live in when people have no respect for the sacredness of Christmas whatsoever.

If we went back to the so-called brutal days of National Service, we wouldn’t see so much pointless criminality.
