YP Letters: A lesson from the past for BBC's over-paid presenters

I have never found Chris Evans entertaining. I find his voice discordant and harsh. His sense of humour is not my own and I cannot understand the obsession the powers that be at the BBC have in paying him and some others so very much.

Once upon a time a celebrity known as Simon Dee worked on television. He allegedly
began to believe he was very important and made outlandish salary demands. He was taken off the air and never heard from again.

Perhaps the celebrities who are so highly paid at the BBC should reflect on what happened to Simon Dee and think about taking a pay cut.

From: Tim Mickleburgh, Boulevard Avenue, Grimsby.

Never mind the so-called sexist issue, the real question is why so many BBC employees get paid more than the Prime Minister. No wonder there is call for a replacement of the licence
fee when this sort of thing happens.

From: Phil Donnelly, Shelley, Huddersfield.

Good article (for a change) from Bill Carmichael re BBC politically correct hypocrisy (The Yorkshire Post, July 21) but I’m afraid Greg Wright’s effort on the WASPI campaign for “transitional payments” to women pensioners could well have been sourced from the two-faced BBC.

How about “compensatory payments” for all those men discriminated against over 70 years who had to work five years longer, pay five years more stamps and then die up to five years earlier than their female peers? Yes, a “whopping £36 thousand” would be about right Greg.

There are a couple of things that need comment on this last week.

Surprise, surprise the women TV and radio presenters ( I refuse to refer to them as stars) are up in arms about salaries. This was of course to be expected and in my view a deliberate ploy by the BBC. It would be far better if they reduced the obscene amount they are paying to the likes of Evans, Lineker, etc.

The second is the action of the sick people and the way they are treating the staff at Gt Ormond St Hospital.

If this is the country we are beginning to live in, I say God and Heaven help us all. This poor child deserves the medical and nursing care he is receiving. It is nothing less than shameful.
