YOUR piece “Tell us where £1m ticket was bought” (The Yorkshire Post, April 7) questioned why Camelot wouldn’t disclose the details of the shop where the recent unclaimed £1m Leeds ticket was bought.

The answer is very straightforward – under
our licence to operate The National Lottery, we have a
duty of care to ensure that
our winners are able to retain their right to anonymity at all times.

That means we are restricted in what we can reveal about any unclaimed prize – naming the shop where a winning ticket
was bought, for example,
could lead to an individual potentially being identified against their wishes.

I can assure your readers, however, that we carried out a huge amount of activity in and around the Leeds area to raise awareness of this particular prize.

Although it didn’t lead to the ticket-holder coming forward on this occasion, the prize money, and all of the interest earned over the 180-day claim period, has now gone to Good Causes – benefiting the whole of the nation.
