YP Letters: Penguins and a whale of a time in culture city

NOW it is half term, why not visit Kingston-upon-Hull, this year’s City of Culture? Last week I spent three days there and what an enjoyable experience it was visiting the wonderful aquarium known as The Deep, now with its family of gentoo penguins from the Moody Gardens zoo in Texas and already breeding in captivity.

Then the Maritime Museum with its history of whaling and seafishing while across from the ‘Blade’ in Queen Victoria Square is the Ferens Art Gallery.

Having had a makeover, it is excellent for all ages.

The gallery was given by the industrialist and MP Thomas Robinson Ferens and it opened in 1927.

There are many other attractions throughout the year.

What is so pleasing is the welcome you get from the people of Hull.

The only negative observation was that the pedestrianisation in the city centre was yet to be completed, there were orange barriers to contend with. That said, do go and pay a visit, you will not be disappointed.
