TREASURY Minister Lord O’Neill tells us (The Yorkshire Post, February 26) that the Government will not impose a devolution deal on Yorkshire despite the ongoing delays.

Unfortunately Labour councillor Peter Box and his colleagues in the Leeds City Region seem intent on concluding their own deal and ignoring those who would prefer a Greater Yorkshire solution.

Perhaps Coun Box, and all the other leaders within Yorkshire, should ask all the residents what they would like to see rather than ploughing on with their own agenda. As ever, we are not being served at all well by such people.

A high profile Greater Yorkshire mayor (ideally from the business community) would surely be the best solution – and certainly not Mayor Box!

LABOUR MP Sarah Champion (The Yorkshire Post, February 27) accuses the Tories of betraying the North.

What did her party do
when it was in power from 1997 to 2010? Not a lot, other than leaving the country virtually economically bankrupt and
the North-South divide even wider.

She’s in no position to give lectures on this subject.
