All together, it’s simply a lie

From: PJ Crabtree, Stoneswood Road, Delph, Saddleworth.

WHAT on earth is going on with this Government? The “we are all in this together” is a lie.

Firstly, they denounce a mansion tax and in the same breath slash £10bn off the benefit budget.

Then in trying to hoodwink us, they put a freeze on council tax when council services are already slashed to the bone. If any institution needs more cash, it’s councils.

But wait a minute, British Gas – who make millions in profits each year – can increase their prices by a massive six per cent (Yorkshire Post, October 12).

It’s about time this Government hit these money-making cash machines too, but if they did that the Tories and their cronies would lose out.

GMC must put patients first

From: Bill Marsh, Beadle Garth, Copmanthorpe, York.

JUST how bad does a surgeon have to be before he loses his
job? You reported that Nayef El-Barghouty will be allowed to continue to practise after botching operations that left a man dead and a lady with severely damaged vocal cords, leaving her with lifelong breathing difficulties (Yorkshire Post, October 11).

Surely the GMC’s first responsibilty must be the safety of patients. What odds on a panel member letting him operate on a member of their family at some future date?

Waiting game

From: Colin Cawthray, Stowe Garth, Bridlington.

I SAW your heading “£1bn transport fund for region set to boost drive to create jobs” (Yorkshire Post, October 10).

This can only be a good thing, it will create 20,000 jobs by 2026. Then I saw the magic claim: 10- year transport plan.

In 1997 John Prescott, as Transport Secretary, had a 10-year plan, and I am waiting to see it.

Good luck to the region.
