I FOUND the Christmas message from the Archbishop of York (The Yorkshire Post, December 24) to be very enlightening, in particular the part where Archbishop Stephen Cottrell mentioned “just as everyone needs healthcare, so everyone needs a home and a job and a meal”.

These basic human needs, in my opinion, form the basis for security both for families and individuals. I, too, also believe we all need a different, greener and fairer economy particularly here in the North; the whole Christmas message was inspiring and full of hope.

Conversely, I read a letter on the opposite page from Terry Palmer that I considered to be somewhat depressing as he advised Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer to take his “smarmy” hindsight and undemocratic conversations elsewhere.

I believe Sir Kier Starmer is on the record as stating that he fully accepts the results of the 2016 referendum. Surely now is the time for the divisions between the people who voted both “Leave” and “Remain” to be now put aside. I, for one, would welcome visits from Sir Keir at any time here in the North, and if this can provide hope and help build trust in assisting with this so called “levelling up” agenda, then all well and good.
