Artful way to boost funding

From: Hilary Andrews, Nursery Lane, Leeds.

THE news that Londoners get most of the Arts Council funding (Yorkshire Post, November 1) comes as no surprise but the extent of the difference is staggering. Does this mean that we in Yorkshire are less able to appreciate the arts than those in London? I’m sure not.

The defence seems to be that foreigners visit London on a grand scale and the museums and art galleries there must be tip top. Why, then, can’t we do as other European countries do and charge any non-Britons for going to these attractions? If this was done there would be more funds available for the regional projects.

Unite front over intimidation

From: Jeffrey Stirke, Newton-le-Willows, Bedale, North Yorkshire.

I ASSUME that the leader of the Unite union thinks that intimidating bosses at the Grangemouth complex and their children to further his discredited course is within the law and acceptable behaviour.

If that is the case he can have no objection if some of the public intimidate the families of striking firemen. Perhaps he thinks that it is quite legitimate to put jobs, lives and property at risk but beyond the pale when people disagree with him.

Common sense to ban burka

From: Mike Perry, Oakleigh View, Baildon.

MOHAMMED Ahmed Mohamed, 27, disappeared from a west London mosque after disguising himself in a burka, according to police.

How long will it take before this PC-gone-mad government realise that banning the wearing of the burka in public is not racist! It is just common sense.
