August 13: Taste of things that never came

From: ME Wright, Harrogate.

COMPARED to the unimaginable squalor which they replaced, Quarry Hill Flats must have seemed like today’s Aireside apartments to their fortunate tenants (The Yorkshire Post, August 11). As your excellent picture shows, they were well served by public transport, with frequent trams. The 1920s bone shaker on the left is being pursued by a much sleeker taste of things to come which, alas, never did. Oh for another Charles Jenkinson, with a public transport background, to bring Leeds into the 21st century!

If SAS training results in deaths of trainee soldiers, then the training regime needs changing.
