BBC goes overboard on coverage of the Games

THE BBC has really excelled itself this summer – if you happen to be a sports fanatic. The arrogance of the programmers is quite breathtaking.

Though I know that there are many sports lovers out there, I’m one myself, I think that to give over 12 hours to the Commonwealth Games each day, not to mention the quarter hour of the news spent on the subject, is – to put it mildly – a little like overkill. Does anyone give the smallest thought or consideration to the many licence fee payers who have no other recourse to entertainment than their TV and have no interest in sport, many of them elderly and housebound? Before I’m told to watch BBC2, take a look at the fare they’re offering on that channel. No fewer than 15 repeats. Having said all this, it does give hundreds of staff at the BBC the opportunity to enjoy themselves, at our expense, away from the studio, throughout the lovely weather this summer.

DON’T you think the BBC are going overboard in their coverage of the Commonwealth Games? I mean they are very much the poor relation of the Olympics.

Still at least Glasgow is a city needing investment, unlike London.
