BBC’s tennis misses the point

From: Andrew Mercer, Oxford Road, Guiseley.

I WAS depressed by the BBC’s coverage of Wimbledon. Why has the Corporation employed Andrew Castle and Chris Bailey – one-time players remembered for their early defeats – as commentators?

They added little perspective or analysis, with their comments simply becoming a distraction. The much-missed Dan Maskell must be turning in his grave.

Is this a polite way for saying that they were no good?

And next year, can we have some shots of the tennis, rather than the so-called celebrities in the Royal box or players’ area?

I WOULD like to respond to Roger Crossley’s response (Yorkshire Post, July 5) to my letter regarding the possible transfer of coverage of Wimbledon to ITV.

He is right in saying that the adverts are annoying – but not as annoying as Andy Murray. Frankly, I would rather watch adverts than him.
