Benefits of going grey

THE work of Bradford University’s scientists in combating the horrors of greying hair (Yorkshire Post, May 7) might suggest the prospect of a lucrative new market, and the UK’s emergence from its economic ills.

But surely those who frantically call for an escape from going grey are old enough to have more common sense. A head of white hair is one of the few rewards left these days for senior citizenship and should ensure you’re not called upon to push-start the car. No need to buy it at the chemists’ or get it on prescription – it comes at no charge.

DURING the period of December 1985 to December 2000, I had the honour of serving as one of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace. Within that time I must have listened to hundreds of search warrant applications from various drug squad officers. When asked as to the usefulness of such warrants the answer usually came back from the officer – like a ripple on a pond.

Surely, now is the time for all Class A and Class B drugs to be put on doctors’ prescription? Dispensed in this manner would ensure that at least the doctors would know who had what in their possession.

I READ that Lord Ahmed in his resignation letter from the 
Labour Party said he felt he would not get a fair hearing and therefore had no choice but to resign from the party. If, as he claims, he had “never been anti-Semitic”, he should have welcomed the opportunity to clear his name before Labour’s ruling National Executive Committee.
