Birthday landmark will honour Princess Diana

From: Maggie Turner OBE, Chief Executive, Diana Award, Buckingham Street, London.

AS we remember Princess Diana on what would have been her 50th birthday on Friday (July 1), it is wonderful to know that her legacy lives on through thousands of young people who span the length and breadth of the country.

More than 33,000 across the UK have been honoured with a Diana Award. Every award-holder has demonstrated the qualities associated with the late Princess – compassion and a selfless commitment to improving the lives of others.

The Diana Award, established in 1999 as a legacy to Princess Diana’s belief in the power of young people to change the world, exists to celebrate young people who make a positive contribution to their communities. Award holders come from lots of different backgrounds. They are volunteers, fund-raisers, campaigners, carers – anyone who has positively influenced others.

Receiving the Diana Award has a lasting impact on the lives of the young people that receive it. Once they receive the award they are supported in achieving their true potential, for themselves and their communities, through the Diana Network.

With a network of award holders increasing each year, the award is building a force of young people who are committed to take social action and improve our communities.

It is important that we take the time to celebrate the achievements of these exceptional young people who are our ambassadors for the future.
