I AM very disappointed at the unchristian comments of our local bishops, especially the Bishop of Leeds and Bishop of Ripon.

The Bishop of Leeds talks of “being lied to, patronised and treated by a PM as mugs”. The Bishop of Ripon talks of the Government having a “total disregard for the most weak and vulnerable”. Such personal abuse is not what we expect from such Church leaders.

Further, they are totally inaccurate. Our Government
has faced an unprecedented crisis that was none of its
doing.

The Prime Minister has
given the lead in enabling the NHS to cope well, and to
protect businesses and the jobs of millions of workers with its economic measures.

There has been help for the homeless so none are now on the streets.

The Prime Minister has himself been seriously ill with the coronavirus so fully understands the nature of this crisis.

I am sure when we look back we will see mistakes may have been made, but what now matters is to help the country recover economically as soon as possible.

Without that, we will have no money to pay for the public services we need, including the NHS.

From: Les Coverdale, Elvington, York.

I DO not whether Dominic Cummings was right or wrong to do what he did, the debate will run on for some time.

However, I do know I am not at all impressed with our church leaders giving voice on the matter.

The Bishop of Leeds is a
very senior churchman and should know better than to
post “The question now is: do
we accept being lied to, patronised and treated by a PM as mugs?”

Perhaps now is the time to remove the Bishops from the House of Lord and do what we want – open churches so we can pray.

From: Martin J. Phillips, Tinshill Lane, Leeds.

IN his defence of the “lockdown” breaches by Dominic Cummings, the Prime Minister patronises us by saying he ‘‘understands’’ the confusion of the population.

We are not confused Boris,
we see very clearly that
Dominic Cummings chose to deliberately and blatantly ignore the rules imposed during ‘‘lockdown’’.
