I BECAME a regular reader of The Yorkshire Post as the first lockdown began.

In that time I have read countless articles demonstrating Yorkshire’s lack of any real influence in Westminster and the corridrs of power.

From low investment levels across education and infrastructure to apathy concerning the recent floods and decision not to hold the promised Yorkshire Floods Summit, it strikes me our region is being patronised and quietly ignored.

Let me suggest that the current two-party system plays a major part here.

Let me suggest an alternative.

How brave are outspoken MPs such as Jake Berry, the former Northern Powerhouse Minister – and numerous others – to strike out on their own as a true voice for Yorkshire and the North of England?

The Blue Wall has been damaged irreparably before it even gained a footing. Boris Johnson barely knows where we are.

Equally, how much trust can one really have in New/Old/New Labour spinning the same old tunes? A small party that might generate 40-50 seats could never govern but neither could it be ignored.

How brave are those that claim to represent us?
