Brilliant wit of Tom Sharpe

From: Janet Berry, Hambelton, Selby.

I WAS saddened to hear of the death of the brilliant writer Tom Sharpe. His Wilt and Wilt Alternative titles are the funniest books I have ever read. His Riotous Assembly about South Africa so sums up the crazy situation there. His books are the only ones which make me laugh out loud.

Two of them were made
into films – Wilt with Griff Rhys Jones and Mel Smith and Porterhouse Blue starring David Jason – but neither of them compared with the hilarity of his writing. If you have not read his books I urge you to do so.

Dazzling Colour brightens day

WHAT a wonderful ceremony the Trooping of the Colour was that the Queen must have enjoyed, even without the presence of her consort. We all know that there is no other army in the world that can perform so well on the parade ground.

All David Cameron has to do now is to bring all our soldiers home from Afghanistan.

Mistaken view

From: P Rickaby, West Park, Selby, North Yorkshire.

FOR Dr G Powell (Yorkshire Post, June 14) to suggest that people in Bangladesh (all due respect to them) live better than people in the 21st century Britain is pure Socialist claptrap.
