Brucie’s words raising a stink

From: Mrs Jennifer A Howe, Glyndon Court, Brighouse, West Yorkshire.

I WAS incensed to read the comments made by Sir Bruce Forsyth (Yorkshire Post, April 16). He stated: “I’m just back from Puerto Rico... I don’t know why I came back to this stinking cold place!”

This “stinking old place” has given him an amazing career opportunity to earn an enormous amount of money and lifestyle most people would be grateful for. That is why he comes back to this “stinking cold place”.

Where did his knighthood come from, may I ask? Is he not grateful for anything this “stinking cold place” has given him?

Stupid action?

From: Maxwell Laurie, Cockfield, County Durham.

THE latest twist in the saga of children’s heart surgery in Leeds really takes the brass biscuit for arrogant stupidity in the case of the protesters. They now claim the NHS decision to appeal the recent High Court ruling (the action they themselves began) is needless time wasting. In fact, if the NHS wins its appeal, the protesters will themselves have to pay the costs of both parties – and the decision in Newcastle’s favour will be restored, not before time and at no cost.

Honestly!

From: Ruthven Urquhart, High Hunsley, Cottingham, East Yorkshire.

WHY do so many people – even average politicians, intelligent journalists and educated commentators – have to qualify their statements, and answers to questions with the immediately suspicious, and monotonously regular, additional phrase“To be honest”.

Surely, we should all speak or write with no premeditated desire to consciously evade the simple and accurate truth?
