Can council cobble together reason for actions?

WELL done, City of York Council! “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is a good piece of Yorkshire good sense.

The council has seen fit to replace the cobblestones in King’s Square with another form of paving. What is the betting that this will need replacement in 10 years time? Cobblestones are somewhat more durable with years of wear left in them.

In addition to upsetting conservationists, indeed anyone remotely interested in a historical site, the council has now incurred the wrath of local shop owners, whose business is already affected. This at a time when shops hope to have an increase in sales with Christmas.

Yet still the suited spokesperson uses nice words such as “consultation” to explain why this has to be done. All at a time of cutbacks and austerity measures.

Any comments, York Council? Or is it a fait accompli and a roaring silence?
