Challenge to rich to join fight against Ebola

From: Brian Sturdy, Honley, Holmfirth.

I CHALLENGE the bankers and chief executive officers earning obscene and immoral salaries to donate their bonuses and expenses in excess of a million pounds to the elimination of the Ebola epidemic. If anyone cannot live on a million pounds per annum, it is time they tried living on a minimum wage for a while. I doubt that this would ever happen!

From: JG Riseley, Harrogate.

WE hear much of the need for (and our efforts to provide) medical facilities, hospitals, beds, doctors and medical workers to combat Ebola in West Africa. Having state-of-the-art medical care, rather than very basic care with rehydration, may lower the death rate for sufferers from very high to high. The scope here for reducing the eventual death toll is rather limited compared with what would be achieved by lowering the average number of people infected by each sufferer.

The latter objective is a matter of public information, organisation and hygiene, together with analysis to devise the sensible precautions and behaviours to be promoted.

Are we putting equivalent or greater resources into this strand of the campaign?

If not then our focus is gravely misdirected.
