Chance for classical music lovers to indulge

From: Josie Brooks, Lidgett Hill, Gledhow, Leeds.

I REFER to Don Burslam’s letter (Yorkshire Post, October 5) regarding the diminishing quality and culture of classical music.

He and your like-minded readers can do no better than to listen to the Sinfonia of Leeds Orchestra: “the region’s finest non-professional orchestra – one of the most remarkable in the country” (Yorkshire Post).

The first concert of the season is on Saturday, November, 10 at 7.30 at The Great Hall, University of Leeds and features Jordan Black, BBC Young Musician woodwind finalist 2012.

As Mr Burslam also mentions “the excellent orchestra of Opera North” in his letter, he will be pleased to learn that David Greed, its leader, is also music director of Sinfonia of Leeds and will be conducting the concert.

Details are available on
www.sinfoniaofleeds.org
and tickets are available from
the box office at The Carriageworks, Leeds on 0113
224 3801.

I do hope your readers will attend the concert to see, and hear, for themselves.
