City centre’s lone piper quietens phone poseurs

TIM Mickleburgh complains of the increasing sound of bagpipes in England (Yorkshire Post, April 6).

One lunchtime I witnessed the not unfamiliar sight of six sharp-suited mobile phone boors marching down Park Row, Leeds, trying to out-do each other in their bawling of “cool” mid-Atlantic management-speak.

As they turned into Bond Street, a lone kilted piper struck up – Bonnets of Bonny Dundee, I think it was – and those tiresome poseurs scattered.

Please Scotland: let’s have more – and perhaps on trains and buses too?

AN interesting viewpoint on the gradual importing, and inclusion, of the bagpipes into events in England, from Tim Mickleburgh.

If Scotland eventually votes for independence, I wonder if the pipes will be recalled back to north of the border?

There are hosepipe bans now in place in parts of England, so would the introduction of a bagpipe ban have any effect in preventing their migration south?

Maybe a codicil could be attached to the West Lothian question about this!
