City centre’s lone piper quietens phone poseurs
TIM Mickleburgh complains of the increasing sound of bagpipes in England (Yorkshire Post, April 6).
One lunchtime I witnessed the not unfamiliar sight of six sharp-suited mobile phone boors marching down Park Row, Leeds, trying to out-do each other in their bawling of “cool” mid-Atlantic management-speak.

Hide AdAs they turned into Bond Street, a lone kilted piper struck up – Bonnets of Bonny Dundee, I think it was – and those tiresome poseurs scattered.
Please Scotland: let’s have more – and perhaps on trains and buses too?

Hide AdIf Scotland eventually votes for independence, I wonder if the pipes will be recalled back to north of the border?
There are hosepipe bans now in place in parts of England, so would the introduction of a bagpipe ban have any effect in preventing their migration south?
Maybe a codicil could be attached to the West Lothian question about this!
