Common sense for the NHS

From: David H Rhodes, Bishopthorpe, York.

ATTENDING a recent health talk, several points arose during the discussion that followed. I was unaware for example that obsolete pills can be redistributed to poorer countries by a system via your doctor or chemist.

With this in mind, what happens to NHS equipment that, say on hygiene grounds, is not required? Could a similar scheme to that of the pills be applied? Two benefits would be derived. Firstly no cash need be sent abroad. Secondly, any medical foreign aid can thus be spent in this country.

If this equipment has a short lifespan requirement, can’t the NHS consider the possibility of a relative material quality reduction and the subsequent cost saving?

A little inconvenient perhaps, but maybe if repeat prescriptions were done fortnightly no wasteful build up of tablets would ensue.

Over simplistic maybe, but perhaps Mr Common Sense could look at it?

Evil society

From: Nino Hoblyn, North Street, Caistor, Lincs.

YOUR recent article “Anger after cat loses eye in glue attack”(Yorkshire Post, November 27) made for one of the most sickening sights I have ever seen in my entire life. It goes to show that we are all now living in a society that has a massive underlying evil.

Until the day when these sick perpetrators and the like who commit such horrendous crimes against defenceless animals are brought to heel and thrashed with the birch, I’m afraid the likes of this will carry on from day to day.

Flood solution

From: Keith Ward, Grove Terrace, Boston Spa, Wetherby, West Yorkshire.

HERE we are again, people getting flooded out and what are Leeds City Council and the so-called Environment Agency doing about it? Nothing. The way to stop people getting flooded is, as I’ve said before, just get two metres of rubbish out of the rivers. No problem! Years ago dredgers took all rubbish out. Now they don’t know what dredgers are, these so-called flood barriers are to me a waste of time. Sandbags are also a waste of time.
