Coupons shouldn’t dictate to us where we shop

From: Karl Sheridan, Selby Road, Holme on Spalding Moor.

LIVING in the delightful village of Holme on Spalding Moor we are fairly central to many nearby towns such as Selby, Pocklington, Market Weighton and Driffield to name but a few, and many times my wife and I choose to visit them to do our weekly shopping.

We enjoy the multitude of individual small shops that these places still retain – despite the Government’s draconian taxation on fuel!

Apart from Pocklington, most of these towns have a Tesco superstore and in some cases we shop at them, even though the nearest one is in Market Weighton. Therefore, I was quite surprised to receive through the post special offer deals from Tesco offering £6 off when we spend £30 – provided we shop at the Tesco in Market Weighton!

I have always felt that the big supermarket chains pose a considerable threat both to the smaller shops and traders of our towns, as well as dictating prices to our hard-pressed local farmers.

However, it now appears that Tesco want to dictate to all of us where, as individuals, we should actually shop. I find it totally out of order that should I decide to spend my day shopping in Driffield and if I decide to use the Tesco there, that my coupons are totally worthless.

Sorry, Tesco, but if you start dictating to us as to where we should shop and you issue money saving coupons with strings attached, then you can go fish!
