Crossword companion
I ALWAYS enjoy the “From The Archive” feature and, like other readers, was delighted to see the picture of crossword compiler Reg Parsey (Yorkshire Post, May 21).
My late husband’s parents lived at Low Row in Swaledale and regularly did the crossword provided by Reg Parsey.

Hide AdWe think it was when my mother-in-law wrote to him in appreciation that he began a correspondence with them. I believe he visited them at Low Row on more than one occasion.
When he felt it was time that he heard from them, they would find that the solution to one of the clues would be “Henry” – my father-in-law’s name, or “anvil” – referring to his hobby of model engineering.
To our surprise, when we were married, he wrote a poem celebrating the occasion.

DAVID Cameron tells us all that the NHS will not be sold off on his watch. This is the same person who told us VAT would not rise if he was elected. Why should anyone accept anything that Cameron and his cronies say, especially when it comes down to our lucrative NHS?

Hide AdAS an exile from the county that dare not speak its name, I have come to accept calmly Ian McMillan’s regular and shameless examples of Yorkshire thrift, but he has gone too far (Yorkshire Post, June 7).
For heaven’s sake, Ian, stop whistling. Take off that tie and throw it back in the Ouse.
