The dangers of being apathetic

From: David Quarrie, Lynden Way, Holgate, York.

CHANCELLOR George Osborne, and some of his Liberal Democrat partners are claiming that our country is on the mend (Yorkshire Post, September 18).

It might be showing a few improvements financially but there are still a huge number of faults with this nation.

British life is increasingly defined by rising crime, delinquency, truancy, lack of respect, poor infrastructure, vandalism, hooliganism, illiteracy, decline in educational standards, anti-social behaviour, over crowded prisons, fighting other people’s wars, drunkenness, drugs, child beaters, fraud, obscene payments for “failures”, bigger than ever gap between the rich and poor, out of touch politicians, judges, and probation officers, uncontrolled immigration, moronic “celebrities” and much more.

The balance of our population is threatened, as is our human stock. There is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Our general public are heartily sick of the ongoing downward slide, and a set of “leaders” who just do not lead – or inspire.

This vast amount of apathy is dangerous.

No need to replace Christa

From: Martyn Gamble, Stonefield Garth, Easingwold, York.

HAS anyone else wondered why the BBC needs to find a replacement for Christa Ackroyd on Look North?

We have at least three young ladies doing the job very well and I suggest that they should be given the job on a permanent basis with a reasonable increase in salary.

Who knows – there might even be a cost saving.

As we have travelled round the country over the last few years, we have noticed that many regional BBC news programmes are presented by one person very efficiently.
