Delaying Brexit deal will allow Brussels to take back control

I CAN can assure John Cole (The Yorkshire Post, May 16) that my eyeballs have no tendency to oscillate in their sockets, nor do I believe I’m more of an egoist than this eternal Remainer who latches on to any opportunity to continue his crusade to halt Brexit.

He calls anyone who still supports our withdrawal from the Brussels’ hot-bed of Eurocrats a swivel-eyed narcissist which, I suggest, demonstrates his own paucity of argument as well as his intolerance in opposing democracy. He might have had an arguable case if he had called for an extension of negotiations beyond December, because of Covid-19, but he had to go the whole hog and demand we abandon our current democratic semi-independence altogether.

Superficially, it would appear that, owing to the virus, an extension after December would be advisable but I can see all kinds of problems arising: notably, the passing of further restrictions and penalties in leaving the EU making, in 2021, an agonising job excruciating.

Theresa May was brought down by Brexit.Theresa May was brought down by Brexit.
Theresa May was brought down by Brexit.

Already, Brussels is playing the hard game with its attempt to penalise us with heavy fines for contravening the rules on freedom of movement. I didn’t see them punish or fine various other EU countries for closing their borders when immigration became a big problem.

Incidentally, where has Brussels been during the pestilence – on furlough? What the Brussels bureaucracy is attempting to do is to gain leverage in their negotiations. Any adverse event will be duly exploited by the Commission encouraged by the likes of individuals such as John Cole and the not to be suppressed strong and well-organised UK factions who are at the present time just remaining low but with a rising optimism.

JOHN Cole, like many other Remainers, cannot get it into their heads we have left the corrupt and undemocratic EU. These anti-democratic Remainers come out of the woodwork and will latch onto anything for their anti-democratic cause. The money we spend on this corrupt union will be far better spent at home.

If JOHN Cole is comparing electing to leave the European Union to his ‘elective surgery’, I’m sure he wouldn’t have been impressed if he’d had to wait over four years for it – like we are having to do with Brexit.
