Digital signals given a boost

From: Katie Fryer, Account Manager, Brass Agency, Leeds.

FURTHER to Arthur Quarmby’s letter (Yorkshire Post, November 17) about the digital TV switchover, viewers should note that Freeview services have now been boosted across the Yorkshire TV region and all homes in coverage should be able receive a reliable signal.

Where people experience reception difficulties, this is invariably due to individual equipment issues – especially in areas where signals from neighbouring transmitters may overlap. Anyone with questions on coverage and retuning for their best reception can still call the Digital UK advice line 0845 650 5050 or use the postcode checker at digitaluk.co.uk.

WHAT an appalling decision by Mr Justice Bean when he upheld an appeal of a foul-mouthed yob who was convicted of using the f-word while being searched by the police.

Where is our society going when a judge of all people appears to condone the use of profanities and swearing in public, and to the police of all people? This ruling ought now to be applied to the courts and let Mr Justice Bean be on the receiving end of a few mouthfuls of abuse

Home front

From: Eamonn Keogh, Turley Associates, Leeds.

SINCE writing the article “We need more new housing to build a better economic future” (Yorkshire Post, November 22), several councils have amended their approach. City of York Council have revised its new housing numbers from 575 dwellings per annum to 800; Leeds City Council has reverted to the regional strategy figure of 4,300 as the basis for calculating its housing land supply; Kirklees is now proposing a slight increase in annual housing provision to 1,410. While these increases are welcome, the fundamental argument in the article does not change. The figures are still significantly short of what is required to address the current crisis in housing provision in the region.
