Divide North Yorkshire in half in council shake-up; here’s how – Yorkshire Post Letters
I, AND probably more like me, cringe at the thought of a “One Yorkshire” controlled by North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC).
Our NYCC councillors tell beleaguered residents that millions of pounds will be saved by abolishing district councils like Harrogate and Selby.

Have the North Yorkshire residents been considered? No, because all the existing council want is to retain total control and, in so doing, will become more remote than ever.
It has been proven time and time again over the decades that “big” is not always the answer, so what happens? Big is broken up to ensure managers can manage units more effectively which in turn achieves better communication at all levels.
To achieve what Government is asking for, Yorkshire could be split into two units:

The North Riding to include Richmondshire, Hambleton, Scarborough and Ryedale, not forgetting of course the “clawback” of Middlesbrough.
