Don’t moan if you fail to support local stores

From: Hugh Rogers, Messingham Road, Ashby, Scunthorpe.

I RARELY shop in Aldi or Lidl, even though there are three such outlets in our town. This may make me look rich, idle or stupid – or even all three. But the upside of it is that I am able to read news reports of Morrisons’ poor trading record with a clear conscience, having spent money there for many years (Tom Richmond, The Yorkshire Post, March 8).

The same cannot be said of those who suck their teeth at the trading losses of conventional supermarkets, whilst assiduously shopping at cut-price outlet stores. A similar “thumbs down” for shoppers who are happy to buy milk from big supermarkets at giveaway prices, whilst pretending to feel sorry for Yorkshire dairy farmers.

Support your local sheriff, that’s what I say. Even if his gun slinging capabilities aren’t quite up to those of the mysterious stranger. If you don’t, it may soon be high noon on the high street.

I’M afraid Morrisons only has itself to blame for poor results. If it cannot stock basics like semi-skimmed milk or offer a semi-professional level of customer service, it does not deserve our custom. It’s very sad that it has come to this.
