Double trouble with insurance

From: Mrs AM Holdsworth, West Garth, Sherburn, Malton.

I HAD a similar experience to Mr Bromby (Yorkshire Post, June 6) with my car insurance.

This had almost doubled. When I queried it, I was told it was because I was no longer entitled to a new car allowance (they had insured my previous car, I was not a new customer). I found a better quote elsewhere. I have now had a letter reminding me I haven’t renewed my insurance yet.

Before I go elsewhere, I should ring them (0845 number and always a long hold time, hadn’t I already done this when I queried it?) as they might be able to do it for less.

Why couldn’t they do this in the first place to an established customer?

Browned off

From: JW Smith, Sutton-on-Sea.

TOM Richmond claims by supporting Christine Lagarde for the post of head of the International Monetary Fund, Alistair Darling has finally come out against his old boss (Yorkshire Post, June 4). I cannot see the logic of his claim when Gordon Brown declared he was not, nor would be, a candidate when the job became available.

Wrong priorities

WHAT is this country coming to? As an 83-year-old, I despair at the treatment of the elderly, people who have worked hard in their earlier lives, yet we can dole out money to immigrants and people who have never paid into the Welfare State. It’s time the Government got its priorities right.

No leader

From: Mr and Mrs J Smith, Beach View, Ferrybridge.

REGARDING Question of the Day (Yorkshire Post, June 10), having taken us into an economic crisis with his policies and led us into an illegal war, we both feel Tony Blair is definitely not the man to lead the European Union and make it a bigger mess than it already is.
