Duke and Duchess of Sussex should stay silent over Commonwealth – Yorkshire Post Letters

SO, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have raised their heads above the parapet of their new home in Los Angeles and informed us all that “past wrongs needed to be acknowledged across the Commonwealth in order to move forward” (The Yorkshire Post, July 7).

Just how much longer is this recognition of “wrongs” to go on, and how far back will it have to go? Decades, centuries, thousands of years? It all suddenly seems to be going too far and becoming an industry in itself.

Many things have been “wrong” over the past 2,000 years and more, many simply of their time. The history of the world is there for all to see. Accept it, learn from it, and just get on with the future.

PRINCE Harry seems to be saying the words that Meghan dictates when he is critical of the Commonwealth.

It came about through countries, which were once a part of our Empire, gaining their independence from our rule. Since that happened, some countries prospered and some didn’t. The Empire may have made mistakes, but not so the Commonwealth which was designed to help and guide nations should they so desire. Harry should engage his brain before opening his mouth.

Editor’s note: first and foremost - and rarely have I written down these words with more sincerity - I hope this finds you well.
