End the 2019-20 football season now so clubs don’t become ‘pariahs’

IF it is eventually decided that the only safe thing to do is to abort all football leagues for the 2019-20 season, then that should be the end of it.

We are in the midst of a worldwide health pandemic. In the meantime all sorts of workers from the NHS and very many other places, plus the general public, and especially those who are older and/or have underlying health problems, continue to be severely at risk, not to mention footballers involved in close contact.

If the abort decision is made, there should be no talk of “messy” legal battles (The Yorkshire Post, May 6). Those who think of doing so should hang their heads in shame and draw back from such action. Yes, there will be winners and losers, but in this unprecedented world situation that is a minor matter. Those clubs should become pariahs.

YOU report that hockey sticks are a recommended means of measuring social distancing in Canada.

A more striking signpost was sent to us by our elder son in Vancouver.

He walks to work past a sign depicting the size of a giant panther. It demands attention and rather beats painted signs on the ground!
