An epidemic of confusion

From: Robert Wise, Hollin Close, Rossington, Doncaster.

FOR a long time, I have been irritated by the incorrect use of the phase “the UK” when the correct term is “Britain”. The scourge is spreading like an epidemic.

Regarding Rob Waugh’s report about war criminals (Yorkshire Post, February 5). The reason that there are so many war criminals in Britain is that we are seen as the world’s greatest soft touch with weak immigration controls and human rights legislation that prevents deportation once anyone is here.

I DO hope that Kate Middleton takes not one whit of notice of any advice from the Duchess of Cornwall, her stepmother-to-be.

Both Kate and William should go their own way, and completely ignore all the in-house rules, and be just two people madly in love without the intrusion from Buckingham Palace.

We are now in the 21st century and William and Kate are sensible modern people. Leave then alone.

I AGREE with Maureen Hunt of Woolley (Yorkshire Post, February 9). I too was very disappointed with this production of Carmen by Opera North. People were leaving the theatre after the first act, and after the second act many more including myself left the Grand Theatre. What a waste of good money.

What a bunch

From: John C Penn, Birch Tree Drive, Hedon.

WE now live in a virtually Communist-free world. Does this mean everything wrong on this earth is the fault of capitalism?

This country is ruled by a bunch of bankers.

The world is ruled by a bigger bunch of bankers.

Please excuse the Cockney rhyming slang.
