EU is another power failure

From: Trev Bromby, Sculcoates Lane, Hull.

The EU and the euro are a contrived disaster – Alexander, the Romans, the USSR, Hitler and the British Empire have all proved attempts at conglomerates of world power are not viable.

Even after all the above examples, successive arrogant governments still insist on carrying on the path of inevitable disaster. Why? This countr y has got to say it is time to cut our losses and get out of the EU.

The militant union leaders should turn their attention to forcing a referendum instead of trying to bring the Government, and country, to its knees.

Sharing lottery win suggested

From: John Rookes, Bramley, Rotherham.

I, NO doubt like many others in the UK, am pleased for the Weir family to have won the jackpot on the Euromillions last week (Yorkshire Post, July 16) but am of the opinion that it was far too much for one winner and could have been shared out better.

Surely it would have been better all round had Camelot made 161 millionaires, which would have made a huge difference to so many people’s lives, instead of this astronomical amount going to one family.

Radio 4 bliss

From: Annie Painter, Spring Lane, Crofton, West Yorkshire.

Like Jayne Dowle I listen to Radio 4 as well (Yorkshire Post, July 18) and I have children too. I especially enjoy Tuesdays at 4.30pm when A Good Read is on. I make the tea, accompanied by a small red wine, in my Denby glass and this is my little piece of peace in a hectic world – bliss.

I AM writing to praise Mr Paul Ackroyd and the staff at the Leeds City Council nurseries at Red Hall. I visited the nursery with my elderly mother. Unfortunately she was unwell and passed out. The staff called an ambulance and in the meantime they were extremely kind and compassionate and did everything they could to make her feel better.
