The EU likes
to hear ‘yes’

From: George Senior, West Cowick, Goole.

THE Prime Minister seeks to bar Ukip from TV debates (Yorkshire Post, January 18), confirming that the Conservatives are no longer democratic.

When Nigel Farage and a fellow MEP went to the EU headquarters in Brussels for the first time, the train fare was £99 return. The EU reimbursed them with £600 each. Easy when it’s not your money. Nigel saw red and put the extra to one side.

When the EU removed Neil Heron’s scales and fined him for selling bananas in pounds and ounces, a metric martyrs’ fund was set up. Unfortunately, Neil suffered a heart attack and died.

Nigel decided that the rail fare overpayment would be better in the martyrs’ fund. Because of their democratic deed, both the MEPs were carpeted. Do anything similar and you will be out on your ear. The EU only understands yes. David Cameron, like all the recent prime ministers, has gone deaf. Only yes receives a gravy train ticket.

Leading question

From: Thomas Jefferson, Alexandra Court, Bridlington.

I WAS interested to read (Yorkshire Post, January 16) the article about the discovery of the “Churchill gene” in DNA which is associated with leadership and with people taking charge.

What a relief for this country in our present circumstances! Can we (and I have no medical knowledge) get all our present MPs injected with this DNA to help them with their leadership?

MAYBE the Home Secretary who bravely reduced the pay of “apprentice” bobbies could encourage her Cabinet colleague in charge of the lottery to scrap the idea of an increase in the price – but maybe suggest that the people running it should take a cut in their salaries instead!
