Failure of police 101 system on county border

From: Sue Garnham, Hanover Green, Knottingley.

LIVING in a village called Cridling Stubbs in North Yorkshire and having the above address because Royal Mail says so, is very frustrating, along with the fact that the 101 system for non-emergency police in North Yorkshire does not work.

Living as I do, where North Yorkshire Police call the borders, I wrote to the Chief Constable Dave Jones to ask why nothing was being done to rectify the problems we have when using the 101 system, for example being put through to West Yorkshire Police and the voice recognition not working.

He passed my letter to his “standards department” who in turn sent “someone– somewhere” within the borders and they had no problem at all with phoning 101.

Earlier this year I visited Eggborough Police Station where there were no officers available, so I was offered their front office phone and again the 101 going through to West Yorkshire Police and the voice recognition not working.

Having notified the Home Office, they contacted Vodafone who have stated that there is a problem with North Yorkshire 101. All these months and North Yorkshire Police did nothing – another reason to wonder why we pay our well-earned money here.
