Green gurus’ naive targets

From: Karl Sheridan, Selby Road, Holme on Spalding Moor, East Yorkshire.

HAVING had my own letter printed supporting a cut in fuel tax (thank you!) I then read Craig Bennett’s piece (Yorkshire Post, March 19) and that made me realise just how naive some of these messiahs of the green movement are.

He points out that transport contributes a quarter of the UK carbon emissions, yet in reality the UK contributes less than one per cent to the overall emissions worldwide so in view of that why are we being squeezed so hard to achieve a target that other countries are not?

One-upmanship in the EU maybe?

IT was interesting to read in the Yorkshire Post, a couple of weeks after the news that Leeds City Council could roll out bus lane cameras across Leeds, that cyclists were given a list of 10 locations that could seriously damage their health. Namely, Leeds’s most dangerous junctions for bike riders.

Surely any cameras should be placed at junctions that might save a life, not to raise money?

Fine every motorist (or cyclist) that goes through a red light and this would surely make our roads free of congestion that are caused accidents.

Double vision

I love Horace and Doris; they give me a chuckle every morning.

I am getting very worried about their health and think they need to see a doctor as it seems that they are showing the first signs of dementia as they are constantly repeating themselves.
