AS a new reader responding to the call to support The Yorkshire Post through the added problems of the coronavirus crisis, may I express my admiration for the quality of your photographs and layout on a daily basis.

The picture of the (now former) Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, at Bishopthorpe Palace – just round the corner from my home – by Simon Hulme (The Yorkshire Post, June 6) was so engaging and captured the essence of Archbishop John.

In these difficult days of lockdown, your pictures of our lovely county remind us how lucky we are to live in Yorkshire, and the delights that await us when we can venture further when it’s a little safer. The Yorkshire Post’s quality reflects the people and the beauty of the county that far exceeds all the national newspapers.

FOR 50 years, the Church of England has seen public support decline. During this time, any charismatic individuals have been Archbishop of Canterbury or York, the latest being John Sentamu. Sadly, they have been unable to redress the problem of church attendance. Unless this is given urgent attention, future Archbishops may find themselves like parish churches – redundant symbols of the past.

Editor’s note: first and foremost - and rarely have I written down these words with more sincerity - I hope this finds you well.

Almost certainly you are here because you value the quality and the integrity of the journalism produced by The Yorkshire Post’s journalists - almost all of which live alongside you in Yorkshire, spending the wages they earn with Yorkshire businesses - who last year took this title to the industry watchdog’s Most Trusted Newspaper in Britain accolade.
