An honourable resignation?

NOW that Vince Cable’s vendetta against the Farepak directors has collapsed, at great cost to the taxpayer, and that HSBC has been judged the most culpable in the Farepak scandal, again at great expense to the taxpayer, can we expect to see Vince Cable’s resignation offered to the Prime Minister, or at least called for by the same Lib Dem MPs who hounded Jeremy Hunt? Cable has long since lost any credibility as a member of the coalition Government, and certainly as Business Secretary.

UNEMPLOYMENT has shown a fall again, but the new claimants for unemployment benefit have increased. Do politicians take us for mugs? Unemployment benefit expires after six months then the claimant goes on to means-tested income-based Jobseekers’ Allowance. If the claimant has a partner working then the claimant receives no benefit and will not be part of the unemployment statistics.

WOULD you please ask your interviewees in the “My Yorkshire” feature at the back of the Yorkshire Post Saturday magazine to resist the temptation of naming a certain pub on the North York Moors as their hidden gem? It crops up time and again, and is in grave danger of becoming unhidden. The bar is crowded enough with a dozen people in. It was still sufficiently hidden last year not even to rate a mention in the Yorkshire’s favourite pub competition, but for how long?
