How does killer not deserve life?

From: Mrs EM Lister, Sorrell Close, Beverley.

I WAS appalled to read (Yorkshire Post, August 16) that Justice Hickinbottom has opened the way for Paul Somers to seek parole after fixing his minimum term at 22 years, judging that his crime was “not so exceptionally serious” to justify a whole life sentence.

Since when was the rape and murder of a 10-year-old child at Killingbeck Hospital, Leeds, deemed as “not so exceptionally serious”?

I don’t think that her grieving family or the rest of the British public would agree with that sentiment.

Paul Somers should be left to
rot in jail and never be allowed the luxury of being free to walk the streets again.

Text-driving for the gormless

From: Ken Holmes, Cliffe Common, Selby.

TEXTING while driving is a downright diabolic, dastardly, dangerous offence, and the
only solution to the serious problem is zero tolerance for anyone convicted – cars confiscated and the gormless offenders banned from driving for life.

People who do their utmost to uphold the law deserve some protection from people who don’t give a damn.

A farcical elevation?

IF there is more argument for reviewing how the Lords are formed one has only to look
at the former Labour MP John Prescott being elevated to the peerage as to what a farce the whole thing is.

Now we are being treated to
his ramblings on being elected police commissioner for Humberside. If this is what they are yet again left with, then it is another sound argument for
not having them.

As for him being an independent candidate, I doubt
it with his Labour cronies
behind him.

Please, please look elsewhere.
