I worked for NHS and won’t ‘move on’ until Dominic Cummings sacked – Yorkshire Post Letters

I AM politically inactive but worked for the NHS for 30 years. Generally, I have supported the Government in their Covid-19 actions.

Some mistakes have been made, but the advance plans were for a flu pandemic so not all the preparations were useful.

But I won’t “move on” from the outrageous Dominic Cummings issue. Boris Johnson should sack him as he doesn’t have the grace to resign.

Thousands of families (and especially single parents) faced the same dilemma and stayed home and isolated without a thought of driving somewhere more convenient and pleasant.

It was clear that people should not travel to second homes to isolate or drive for a jolly outing. Ergo he ignored the rules everybody else was expected to follow. This, to me, is not a matter of breaking the law, but of breaking trust with all the families who have made heroic sacrifices for the sake of the country.

I noted (The Yorkshire Post, May 29) the key workers who have only seen their son through a window for eight weeks; this puts Dominic Cummings to shame.

I HAVE voted in every election for this last 60 years, and I have never have known people express their anger so much. In fact, I have yet to meet anyone who agrees with Dominic Cummings.

Boris Johnson may want to draw a line under this matter, but he has not judged the mood of the country as MPs have being deluged with emails.

People who make the rules should abide by the rules and, if he is not careful, Mr Johnson will lose all credibility. He should remember Margaret Thatcher’s words ‘Advisers advise and Ministers decide’.

From: Bob Watson, Baildon.

I GET somewhat frustrated far too often with Tom Richmond’s wise after the event columns (The Yorkshire Post, May 23 and 29). None of us would want to have to take the awful coronavirus decisions that have been necessary, and I am sure most accept that mistakes will have been, or will continue to be, made as the whole world moves forward. Certainly, blame should not come into any equation.
